Bin inventory
In many cases, particularly in industry, manufacturing or the skilled trades, certain storage units are managed in relatively large numbers. These are often reusable auxiliary and operating materials that are available in significant quantities at practically any storage location. As part of a so-called bin inventory, the number of items available in these storage bins on the respective key date is documented - unlike the item inventory, the individual counts are combined here and entered as a value in a corresponding IT system.
The advantage of bin inventories is that the degree of organization is manageable and can be accomplished with the personnel and know-how on site. One disadvantage, however, is that due to transmission errors or other incidents (e.g. many individual inventory employees), it is not possible to record data accurately.
