What is cantilever racking?
Cantilever racking is a type of racking that is used to store particularly long, heavy or bulky goods. They consist of individual rack uprights equipped with protruding arms on which the goods are stored. These can come in different designs and spacings to accommodate goods of all weights and sizes. The design enables uncomplicated access.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of cantilever racking?
Like all types of shelving, cantilever shelving also has both advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages:
- Long, bulky and heavy goods can be stored
- Rows of shelves can be flexibly positioned and loaded
- Shelf can be customized to meet existing requirements
The disadvantages:
- Mostly no optimal use of space
- Higher investment costs for customized production
Cantilever racking is therefore particularly worthwhile for bulky and heavy goods. For example, they can be used to store entire machines or large parts such as bars or panels for production, which is not possible with other types of shelving.
