What does goods-to-person mean?
The "goods-to-person" picking method is a dynamic, semi-automated or fully automated picking method. The order picker stands directly at the picking point, eliminating long travel times. The goods to be picked are transported from a usually computer-controlled warehouse to the order picker with the aid of a rack conveyor. A lot of time can be saved by eliminating the time spent walking and searching for the various articles. Transport times are also shortened by fast and fully automatic conveyors.
Advantages of goods-to-person picking:
- Less susceptibility to errors
- Lower investment costs
- Independent of machine failure
- High flexibility through personnel deployment
- High picking performance with path time optimization
