What are groupage goods?
In logistics and transportation, the term groupage goods is used when unit loads are bundled together and transported as groupage freight. In the process, the goods are collected from various consignors and grouped together in the freight forwarder's warehouse to form a consolidated consignment and separated again in the corresponding warehouses after delivery.
Due to their cost-effectiveness, groupage transports are a frequently used method in logistics. The advantage of mixing different consignments is that they lead to cost savings. The freight forwarder has the task of planning the tours in a logistically sensible way, taking into account time and traffic aspects.
Furthermore, care should be taken to ensure that the loading space capacity of the means of transport, e.g. the truck, is fully utilized and that the delivery priorities during the transport route are observed. It is also important to ensure that the load compartment is loaded correctly. This means that the hold should be loaded last with the goods that need to be delivered first.
