Inventory security as a prerequisite for regulated goods handling
A view of the inventory, for example via IT systems, is the basis for sales in every form. A high degree of inventory security is required to ensure availability across the board. The aim is to either prevent goods losses or document them in order to obtain precise data at all times.
Regular checks are necessary to create the conditions for a high level of stock reliability in the warehouse. Typically, this means regular stocktaking and checks by the pickers.
Possible causes for deviating figures (= low stock reliability):
- Spoilage of goods
- Theft
- Fraud
- Sloppy documentation
- Inefficient merchandise management system
Small-scale checks have been established to monitor ongoing operations. These include the reconciliation of remaining stocks after loading and the inspection of the load itself. The so-called remaining quantity report is used to compare the numerical values with the physical stock, irrespective of an inventory.
