What is a pallet?
A pallet or Euro pallet is used for the storage and bundled transportation of heavy goods. These pallets are usually moved using forklift trucks. When shipping on a pallet, the exact dimensions, i.e. width and length, must be specified. An industrial pallet is 1,200 x 1,000 mm and a Euro pallet measures 1,200 x 800 mm.
The different types of pallets:
- Disposable pallets are manufactured for single use and therefore do not have a long shelf life
- Wooden pallets must be specially treated and labeled and are usually made of softwood
- Plastic pallets are quick to clean, very weather-resistant and therefore often used in the hygiene and food industries
- Pallets made of corrugated cardboard are very cost-effective, but not very weather-resistant
