What is a shelf storage system?
Shelf storage systems are a special type of storage system used in logistics and industry. Stored goods and load units are placed on so-called trays and stored with them. This creates a new load unit from the shelf and the goods.
A tray is a kind of shelf in its own right and can be put back into the shelf after loading. It is usually made of sturdy sheet metal and is identical in size throughout the warehouse. To prevent goods from slipping, the edges of the shelf are curved upwards.
What are the advantages of shelf storage?
Shelf storage systems are particularly suitable for internal material flow, for example in a manufacturing company for storing intermediate products or parts. This is mainly due to the advantages of the trays:
- Very stable construction
- Uniform size
- Automatic transportation possible
- Automatic storage and retrieval possible
- Optimal use of storage space
With these advantages, shelf storage warehouses are often set up as small parts warehouses.
