Database

What is a database?

Databases are a kind of digital card index. Databases manage large amounts of structured data on storage media. Individual databases can be linked with each other so that collected information can be accessed more quickly.

Relational databases are usually used in logistics, whereby information from several databases is linked together. So that collected information can be retrieved more easily, e.g. which company manufactures which products.

How is a database system structured?

A database consists of two important components:

  • The database management system (DBMS) is responsible for managing the database(s).
  • The database stores the information in the form of individual data records.

Where are databases used?

  • Accounting and management programs in controlling and accounting
  • Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP)
