Controller or dispatcher

What are controllers or dispatchers?

The people responsible for the professional organization and execution of transports in logistics are called controllers or dispatchers. Their main task is to coordinate and organize logistical processes and to ensure that they run smoothly.

They carry out a wide variety of work:

  • Planning and execution of transports
  • Monitoring of transports
  • Acceptance of orders
  • Preparation of offers
  • Interface between customers and transport companies
  • Allocation of personnel
  • Provision of goods and raw materials

Controllers only deal with the organization, planning and control of logistical processes. They are therefore excluded from the actual execution of transportation or storage, for example.

What are the requirements for a controller in logistics?

To be employed as a controller in a trading or logistics company, you should have completed commercial training, preferably in the logistics sector. They should also have an understanding of logistical processes, although this can also be acquired through practical work.
