Negative picking
Negative picking refers to the fact that there may be a slightly higher quantity than actually required within a staging unit. Let's assume that the quantity in stock at the picking station is greater than the quantity required for the shipping unit to be packed. For organizational and practical reasons, it would make little sense to intervene and repackage there. Instead, the order picker converts the staging unit into a shipping unit - the quantity that is not actually required is then placed on an empty pallet that is available at the staging area.
Picking the remaining unit therefore avoids cumbersome handling, which would cause time and costs.
