What is a refrigerated van?
A refrigerated van is a commercial vehicle that can transport perishable goods at a specified temperature. A refrigerated van can keep the interior temperature in the cargo area constant using a cooling system. This allows sensitive goods such as food or medicines to be transported reliably without interrupting the cold chain.
In long-distance transport, trailers with refrigeration units mounted on the head end are usually used. In conjunction with an insulated box body, they form the heart of a refrigerated semi-trailer. They regulate the temperature in the cargo area, which can also be divided into different temperature zones. The units are powered either electrically or by combustion engines and ensure that the transported goods remain chilled or frozen. Among the best-known manufacturers of refrigeration units for trailers are Thermo King, Mitsubishi and Carrier Transicold.
With the help of modern telematics, the temperature data of the trailers can be permanently read out, transmitted and monitored remotely. After transportation, temperature recorders provide proof that the cold chain was not interrupted at any time during transport.
