What is a channel rack?
A channel rack is a variant of a rack storage system in which it is possible to store several storage units one behind the other in one space or in one channel. Normally, channel racks are operated with a forklift. Devices such as chain conveyors or shuttles moving in the channels allow access to units located at a lower level in the respective channel. These shuttles are often not tied to one channel, but can be transported from channel to channel by the forklift or the corresponding storage and retrieval machine.
Both LIFO and FIFO can be realized with different types of channel racking. These shelves are particularly suitable for medium to large item stocks, for example as buffer storage or replenishment storage in order picking. In addition to the high degree of space utilization, the self-propelled shuttles save an enormous amount of time during storage and retrieval processes.
