Quality standard: the basis for quality in procedures and processes
A functioning logistics system not only ensures efficient flows of goods, but is also essential for the functioning of companies in general. With the help of a so-called quality management system, structures and processes are put to the test in order to identify problems or inadequate processes and take remedial action. A quality standard forms the basis for this, a typical example here would be ISO 9000 or ISO 14000. These are cross-industry standards that specify certain minimum standards - and whose use in the company is certified by independent bodies.
Alignment with a quality standard or the establishment of a quality management system based on it not only has clear practical advantages, but also has a positive effect on the external image of a company. For example, participation in certain public tenders is linked to companies demonstrably complying with and implementing certain quality standards (ergo: quality norms).
Task of a quality standard
The task of a quality standard is to establish process-oriented standards and to document their compliance in the form of QM systems. In Germany, DIN is synonymous with the most important standardization organization, the German Institute for Standardization (Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V.).
